My Pregnancy Journal #34 -
Cheap Maternity Clothes & Bedroom Makeover

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart.   {Jeremiah 1:5}

I prayed for this child, and the Lord granted me what I asked of Him. So now I give him to the Lord.
{1 Samuel 1:27-28}

“Oh that God would give every mother a vision of the glory and splendor of the work that is given to her when a babe is placed in her bosom to be nursed and trained! Could she have but one glimpse into the future of that life as it reaches on into eternity; could she look into it’s soul to see its possibilities; could she be made to understand her own personal responsibility for the training of this child, for the development of its life, and for its destiny, –she would see that in all God’s world there is no other work so noble and so worthy of her best powers, and she would commit to no others hands the sacred and holy trust given to her.” {JR Miller}

How far along are you?  34 weeks today!  Only just a few more weeks!!  :)

Baby's growth?  Naomi is about the size of a cantaloupe -- approximately 4 and 3/4 pounds and almost 18 inches, head to heel.  :) #ILoveBeingPregnant

Maternity Clothes?  I gifted away most of my maternity clothes awhile back to a young girl who needed them more than I, even though I knew full well that we would have more children.  But I knew that was what God was leading me to do, so I decided to trust God to provide what I needed when the time came again.

Just as I began to grow out of my regular clothes (around the beginning of my second trimester) a friend from church, who had no idea of my need, loaned me bags and bags of maternity clothes!  Then shortly thereafter she also found out she was with-child.  :)  I have slowly given her back pieces of her collection as we both grow.

I have been saving, praying, and on the lookout for "new" so I may return all of what she loaned me.  Here are the deals that I've scored!
  • A couple of months ago at Goodwill I found 7 elastic-waisted skirts for $3 each!
  • Two weeks ago I found a 70% off rack at Target for Liz Lange Maternity tops for $5.98 each instead of their regular $20-25 each.  The Lord had blessed, and I was able to purchase five of them!
  • This week I found a pair of Motherhood Maternity cargo pants in chocolate (that are exactly like a khaki pair I found on Craigslist) for $8, plus a cardigan sweater, Motherhood Maternity top, an Old Navy khaki trench, and an amazing teal corduroy winter coat all for $15!!  (My regular jackets and coats have grown too small for my naturally gaining prenatal weight.)
Here's a photo of some of my finds (that were clean for the picture).  ;)

Home Projects?  Our bedroom is done!!!  :)

We ripped out the twenty-something year old, allergy-ridden carpet (we'll be laying new at tax time), painted the yellowish ceiling bright white, the musty "white" walls we painted "Dapper Tan," and hung new dome lighting (not pictured).

Everything you see has either been bought at yard sales, thrift stores, Goodwill, Craigslist, on clearance racks, or has been gifted to us.  You can create a warm, inviting, truly lovely space that brings you a peaceful atmosphere without spending tons of money.  The key?  Be patient.  Wait.  Be wise with your research and timing of your purchases.  And be content in the process.  This room has been 3 and 1/2 years in the making.  :)

Oh, yall . . . I have always felt "off-kilter" in our bedroom and couldn't ever put my finger on why until recently.  The problem?  The window was off center!!!  So I created an illusion of it being centered by centering the curtain rod/curtains on the wall.  I am really very thrilled with myself over this idea, if you can't tell.  ;)

Yard sale changing table find and the only "new" item for this baby (she will be enjoying hand-me-downs).

When wall space lacks, ever consider putting a dresser inside the closet?  It works for us nicely.  Our clothes hang behind the curtains that create a softening effect to the room instead of having doors.  I was also really excited about my Pinterest idea in the right corner - wall hanging for my scarves and belts!

The wall hanging below is just a collection of light and dark green, purple, cream, and maroon dried leaves/branches.  May I tell you about the Goodwill find that made me gasp in the store, and squeal when I got it home?  The pillow on the right.  :)

I am really loving our new space.  It's been a long time coming.  It's a breath of fresh air to me.  And completion of this project at 34 weeks along means it's just in time.  :)

This is the Babies R Us bedding set that I told yall about quite awhile back that I scored at a whopping 70% off!!!  It's so lovely and so perfectly gender-neutral... prepared for the future.  ;)

Okay baby, you're bed is read now.  See you in a few weeks.  ♥

  1. Your bedroom looks great! That's on our "to-do" list before baby comes in ~13 weeks. And such great Goodwill finds! I need to go see if I can find any skirts there. I found you via My Joy Filled Pregnancy... wishing you well in the last few weeks of your pregnancy!! :]

  2. Dear Rebecca, Congratulations on the upcoming arrival of your baby girl and all the great deals who have found. I'm a new follower from Thankful Thursdays. I am curious which mountain view do you have? I used to live in Denver and I could sit on my couch in the living room and watch the sun set over the Rockies. It was glorious. I'm originally from Portland, Oregon and was used to seeing Mt. Hood on a good clear day (definitely not every day.) Esther Norine Designs

  3. Aww!! I am love with the baby bed!! So nice!!

I'm thrilled you've stopped by for a visit! I hope you feel as though we're sittin' together on my front porch while drinkin' somethin' warm; simply sharin' life with transparency. :)
