My Pregnancy Journal #28 & What Is Clean Eating?

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart.
Jeremiah 1:5

I prayed for this child, and the Lord granted me what I asked of Him. So now I give him to the Lord.
1 Samuel 1:27-28

“Oh that God would give every mother a vision of the glory and splendor of the work that is given to her when a babe is placed in her bosom to be nursed and trained! Could she have but one glimpse into the future of that life as it reaches on into eternity; could she look into it’s soul to see its possibilities; could she be made to understand her own personal responsibility for the training of this child, for the development of its life, and for its destiny, –she would see that in all God’s world there is no other work so noble and so worthy of her best powers, and she would commit to no others hands the sacred and holy trust given to her.” -JR Miller

How far along are you?  28 weeks today!
Best Moment This Week?   Beginning praying with my husband the prayers and scriptures over our growing womb baby from the book "Blessing Your Spirit" by Sylvia Gunter & Arthur Burk.
Baby's growth?  Naomi is now approximately 2 & 1/4 pounds and is about 15 inches long! - about the size of a Chinese Cabbage, LOL. :) #ILoveBeingPregnant
Praises & Prayer Requests? My back is improving by leaps and bounds!  :)  Also praying for the financial provision for everything we still need to obtain prior to her birth, and energy/stamina/TIME to complete the remainder of home projects we've begun.
Medical Stuff:  Glucose tolerance test down with no complications.  :)  In addition, I have now entered into the every two week appointment schedule.  This both excites me knowing it's getting closer to her arrival, and annoys the crud out of me to drive so far for a "check-up."
Weight Gain/Loss? The last time I was weighed at a prenatal appointment, I had gained 17 pounds.  (We do not have a scale)
Am I trying to control my weight?  No.  I feel no worry or concern about my weight gain as long as I know I am eating healthfully and getting what my baby and I need to flourish during this pregnancy.

So what am I eating?  I am eating "cleanly."  In a nutshell, eating clean is the practice of eating whole, natural foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and complex carbohydrates. It also means staying away from the junk that typically makes up the Standard American Diet (S.A.D) These types of food include man-made sugar, bad fats (hydrogenated, trans-fat), preservatives, white bread, and any other ingredients that are unnecessary. An easy way to remember if a food is clean is: "if man manufactured it, don't eat it."
I eat four meals a day that include:
  • Produce
  • A whole grain
  • Lean protein
  • Plant-based fat
  •  Plus 2-Liters of water and 3-4 cups of green tea every day, and the very occasional cup of black coffee.
What am I doing fitness wise?  Since my low back has begun to improve from seeing my chiropractor twice a week, at his advice I have begun prenatal yoga and stretching again...very slowly to pay extra close attention to how all parts of my body feel (especially my back).  It's been about a month and a half since being forced to cease my fitness routine due to two herniated discs, so taking it slowly is a very good thing.  Oh, and walking every day with my girlies.  :)
Thoughts from the family?  My belly continues to be a hand magnet.  :)  Plus they think it's hysterical to watch my belly jump and pop.  They are getting really excited for the last trimester to hurry along.
Discussion Question: This week's question is for supporting, encouraging, and sharing wisdom with the first-time moms.
1.) Sleep when your baby sleeps!  2.) In everyone's excitement to come visit to see your new baby, don't "entertain," you'll wear yourself OUT.  3.) You can do this.  4.) If nursing, keep at it.  I can sometimes take a few days, up to a couple weeks even, for you and baby to get the hang of it.  Then it's a breeze.  :)  Also on breastfeeding, do not hesitate to ask for help!  Lactation Consultants are extroidinarily helpful and can help get you both over a hump if you're experiencing one.

  3. You have an amazing pregnancy, Rebecca. I love that you acknowledge that the baby is God's gift to you and your family. I am so excited to hear more from you in the coming months. You can also include walking in your daily exercise and don't open your mouth when you push the baby. Have long pushes and the baby will arrive in no time. I pray for your pregnancy and may your baby be blessed with a good soul.
